The Affinity Group for Attorneys of Color is an internal resource for its members to address career growth issues through peer networking and interaction with senior partners of diverse backgrounds. The group organizes a variety of internal networking events, including lunch meetings for its members and receptions for the entire firm.

At the quarterly "Meet the Partner" lunch on Jan. 22, Real Estate partner Neil Tucker shared insights on his career and practice, and practical strategies and tips on career development for associates. At the June 27 lunch, Litigation partner Michael Martinez spoke to lunch attendees about his practice and career trajectory.

As part of its annual social gathering for members, the group hosted a scotch tasting on Feb. 1.

The group hosted its annual Lunar New Year lunch on Feb. 15, which this year featured a viewing of an excerpt from "The Chinese Exclusion Act" by award-winning documentary filmmakers Ric Burns and Li-Shin Yu of Steeplechase Films. This film sheds light on the important connections between the Chinese Exclusion Act and the history of American civil liberties, immigration and culture.

The Working Parents Affinity Group provides working parents across the firm with connection and a place to address the issues these attorneys face through ongoing group dialogue, internal networking opportunities, formal and informal lunches, workshops, and outside events.

The Working Parents Affinity Group hosted Alyson Schafer, an internationally acclaimed parenting expert, therapist and best-selling author of three parenting books - Breaking the Good Mom Myth; Honey, I Wrecked the Kids; and her latest, Ain't Misbehavin' - for a webinar titled "Work Life Balance." During her May 9 presentation, Schafer shared insights from her years of research as well as clinical and field experience, including how to put an end to the need for perfection and refocus on the need for balance, self-care and value-based decision making.
