Any person or legal entity may apply for the registration of a trade mark by filing an application to the Trademark Office of the National Board of Patent and Registration. After an successful application, a trademark is registered in one or more trademark classes, as defined by the Trademark Office.

An application must be made in writing and it must specify the applicant's name, the trademark, and the trademark classes for which registration is applied for. On filing a registration fee of 1100 FIM (approx. 250 U.S.$) plus fee of 400 FIM (approx. 90 U.S.$) per class that registration is applied for must be paid. Renewals and renewal applications must be followed by a fee of 1250 FIM (approx. 280 U.S.$) plus a fee of 600 FIM (approx. 135 U.S.$) per trademark class.
