In May 2016 the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev directed that a Ministry of Information and Communications (hereinafter, the Ministry of Information) be created. The President noted that the coordination of information activities in the state and control over the distribution of information is the responsibility of a non-core ministry – the Ministry of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan. In this regard, it is necessary to create a new authority.

The Ministry of Information was established on May 6. It is headed by the press secretary of the President Mr. Dauren Askerbekovich Abayev. Mr. Saken Seytzhapparovich Sarsenov was appointed the Deputy Minister.

The Ministry of Information was established on the basis of the Committee for Communication, Information and Informatization of the Ministry of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan (hereinafter, the Communications Committee). Before the creation of the Ministry of Information, the Communications Committee was engaged in, inter alia, control over the distribution of information on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

All contact details of the Communications Committee are now the contact details of the Ministry. We remind you that the Ministry of Information is located at the following address: Entrance 14, 8 House of Ministries, Orynbor St., Astana, 010000 Republic of Kazakhstan. You can contact the Ministry of Information by telephone: +7 (7172) 74 10 12 (administrative office): +7 (7172) 74 02 87 (reception of the Minister).

In the near future a blog by the Minister D.A. Abayev will be available.

Such functions of the Communications Committee as monitoring the information distribution in Kazakhstan, including Internet resources, in order to prevent violations of RK laws have passed to the Ministry of Information.

The Ministry of Information will also be engaged in elaboration of the state information policy, public opinion studies, coordination of the information activities of state bodies, development of the domestic mass media and ensuring interaction between the state and the public.
