EcoZone Blog: EPA’s Draft Plan for Putting Contaminated Sites to Good Use: "RE-Powering America’s Land"

EPA’s recently released Management Plan, under its "RE-Powering America’s Land" Initiative, lays out a two-year plan to advance the development of renewable energy facilities on contaminated sites, thus: (a) reducing the amount of green space that might otherwise be used for such facilities; (b) reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and (c) benefitting (whether through job creation, improved health conditions, or other benefits) the local communities where such facilities are sited.

EPA's recently released Management Plan, under its "RE-Powering America's Land" Initiative, lays out a two-year plan to advance the development of renewable energy facilities on contaminated sites, thus: (a) reducing the amount of green space that might otherwise be used for such facilities; (b) reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and (c) benefitting (whether through job creation, improved health conditions, or other benefits) the local communities where such facilities are sited. The Management Plan lays out three goals:

  1. Provide Incentives and Technical Assistance for Siting Renewable Energy [facilities] on Contaminated Land;
  2. Create Unified Federal Approach to Promote Siting of Renewable Energy [facilities] on Contaminated Land; and
  3. Improve Communication and Sharing of Data on Siting Renewable Energy [facilities] on Contaminated Land to Enable Stakeholders to Successfully Reuse Sites for Renewable Energy.

The Management Plan also lays out specific "Actions" proposed to be taken to achieve the stated goals.

Public comments can be submitted regarding the Management Plan until November 30, 2010.
