On November 2, 2017, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nominations of Kevin McIntyre and Richard Glick to join FERC. McIntyre will serve as Chairman once he is officially sworn in. Together, McIntyre and Glick will fill the five-member Commission board for the first time since October 2015.
Prior to reaching the Senate Floor, McIntyre and Glick were unanimously advanced by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on September 19, 2017 (see September 26, 2017 edition of the WER). Now confirmed, McIntyre, previously the co-leader of the energy practice at a law firm in D.C., will take over as Chairman at FERC from current Chairman, Neil Chatterjee, who had been filling in on an interim basis. McIntyre will serve for a remainder of a term ending June 2018 and a full term that ends June 2023. Meanwhile, Glick was previously the Democratic General Counsel for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Glick will serve as Commissioner for the remainder of a term ending in June 2022. McIntyre and Glick will serve alongside current FERC Commissioners Cheryl LaFleur, Robert Powelson, and Chatterjee.
Current FERC Chairman Chatterjee welcomed McIntyre and Glick to FERC in a statement, saying "both Kevin and Rich bring years of experience and knowledge to the significant issues before the Commission, and, importantly, their arrival restores the commission to full strength." Both McIntyre and Glick were confirmed by a unanimous vote.
