James Sammataro, co-head of Pryor Cashman's Media + Entertainment practice, together with Partner Hans Hertell and Counsel Brendan Everman, secured an additional award of nearly $850,000 in attorneys' fees, costs, and expenses on behalf of their client Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. ("SBS") in connection with their successful copyright infringement defense against Latin American Music Company, Inc. (“LAMCO”) and Asociación de Compositores y Editores Musica Latinoamericana de Puerto Rico, Inc. (“ACEMLA").

Attorneys' fees in copyright infringement disputes are awarded only in “exceptional” cases. Judge Richard Sullivan determined that not only should the plantiffs be required to pay a significant portion of the fees, but that the award of fees would also serve to deter (future) plaintiffs from bringing meritless infringement.
