The Firm has actively participated in the Mansfield Rule project since its inception in 2017.
Toronto (Canada) – Fasken successfully achieved Mansfield Rule 5.0 Certification. The certification confirms that for leadership and committee appointments, senior associate and partner hiring, and partner promotions Fasken considered at least 30 per cent underrepresented lawyers.
The Firm also achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status. In addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline certification requirements, Fasken successfully reached at least 30 per cent underrepresented lawyer representation in a number of our current leadership roles and committees.
"We've actively participated in the Mansfield Rule project since its launch. The annual objectives set by this program provide independent party measure of our Firm`s commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion," said Peter Feldberg, Firm Managing Partner.
Diversity Lab works with Mansfield Rule participating firms to annually measure outcomes and iterate the program based on those outcomes to ensure the firms are moving toward the goal to increase and sustain diversity both in leadership and the pipeline to leadership. Since the Mansfield Rule launched in 2017, it has grown from 42 to more than 270 participating firms in the US and Canada.
There is more work to be done which is why Fasken is participating in the Mansfield Rule 6.0 Certification process, which began in July 2022.
About Mansfield Rule
The Mansfield Rule program was inspired by a winning idea at the 2016 Women in Law Hackathon, hosted by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Stanford Law School and Bloomberg Law. The Mansfield Rule aims to boost diversity in leadership by broadening the pool of talent through "consideration goals" – not quotas. It is named after the first American woman admitted into the legal profession in 1869, Arabella Mansfield.
