On 1 January 2012, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) ("the Act") came into force in New South Wales. Although the Act was originally intended to be part of a process of harmonisation of work health and safety laws, harmonisation has not occurred (and probably won't occur in the foreseeable future). However, what has occurred is a change of work safety laws in New South Wales (and Queensland, and the Commonwealth jurisdictions).
Most importantly, directors of companies must exercise due diligence to ensure that the work safety obligations of the company are being met. If your Board is relying on you, you need to understand what the new law means.
