Angel investment is a key driver of innovation and economic activity internationally. It is rising in prominence to fill the early stage funding gap faced by start-up technology based companies in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis.
Angel investment is rapidly growing in Australia as well. In the Hunter Valley alone we now have three angel groups, being Hunter Founders Forum Limited, Hunter Angels Trust and Rights House. Moray & Agnew is a keen supporter of all angel groups in the Hunter Valley.
The growth of angel groups in Australia is greatly facilitated by the Australian Association of Angel Investors Limited. Newcastle has been successful in its bid to host the AAAI’s 2011 National Conference, which will be held on 16-18 February 2011. The Conference is the key event on the Australian angel calendar and this is the first time the National Conference has been held in NSW. The Conference is being hosted in Newcastle by Hunter Founders Forum Limited and Hunter Angels Trust.
Moray & Agnew is delighted to be a bronze sponsor of the Conference.
The theme for the Conference, "Angels without Borders", reflects the national and international trend to foster the break down of barriers in angel investment at every level (knowledge, skills, industry, sector, group, distance, jurisdiction, etc.) and promote syndication, coinvestment and collaboration to support the growth of the companies in which angels invest. Experienced angels and entrepreneurs will describe effective governance and mentoring strategies.
Sessions at the conference will focus on international angel investment best practices covering key issues including consideration of a possible investment through to managing risk, relationships and strategies to enable successful exits from investments.
The Conference will include international guest speakers, experienced angel investors, entrepreneurs, venture capital firms engaging with angel groups, as well as speakers from other key stakeholder groups in the Australian innovation economy.
