On Thursday, September 24, we held a practical roundtable discussion jointly hosted by AccessPrivacy and the Canadian Anonymization Network (CANON). Leading privacy practitioners unpacked the PPCDA's concepts of "anonymized" and "de-identified" data, how these concepts are used throughout the PPCDA and compared against those contained in the former Bill C-27 (see CANON's 2022 submission to the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology regarding Bill C-27), and what the proposed changes may mean for your organization's compliance strategy.
The discussion addressed, among other things, the role of anonymization and de-identification in consent exceptions, individual data subject rights, organizational accountability obligations, and enforcement-related provisions under the PPCDA.
The discussion was moderated by Adam Kardash and featured the following subject-matter experts and CANON members:
Khaled El Emam, Canada Research Chair in Medical AI at the University of Ottawa
Suzanne Morin, Vice President, Chief Privacy & Data Ethics Officer at Sun Life
Language: English
