We are pleased to announce that Matthew Farrugia, our VAT Specialist, will be attending the 2026 Autumn Conference of the International VAT Association (IVA), taking place in Marseille, France, on 22 and 23 October 2026.
This year’s conference, themed “Mediterranean Crossroads of VAT: Trade, Technology & Transformation,” will bring together VAT professionals, businesses, consultants and tax authorities to examine how rapidly evolving technology is reshaping the international VAT landscape.
As artificial intelligence, increasingly sophisticated data capabilities and digital reporting transform tax administration, VAT compliance is entering a new phase. The focus is moving beyond the accurate reporting of transactions towards ensuring that tax decisions themselves are made correctly, consistently and transparently before transactions are reported.
Under the broader theme of “The Next Generation of VAT Compliance: From Digital Reporting to Intelligent Tax Decision-Making,” the conference will explore the opportunities and challenges arising from this transition, including the growing role of technology and data in VAT processes and decision-making.
Matthew’s attendance reflects our commitment to remaining at the forefront of developments in VAT regulation, technology and international best practice. Participation in forums such as the IVA Autumn Conference provides an important opportunity to exchange knowledge with leading professionals from across Europe and beyond, while gaining valuable insight into the changes shaping the future of VAT compliance.
