Butler Snow LLP is pleased to announce that attorneys Will Caldwell and Jerry Chapman have joined the firm’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Healthcare Litigation Group. Caldwell joins the firm’s Nashville, Tennessee, office, while Chapman joins the Birmingham, Alabama, office.

Will Caldwell | Nashville, Tennessee

Caldwell is a member of Butler Snow’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Healthcare Litigation Group and has represented doctors, lawyers, governmental entities and companies in complex legal matters since 2008. His practice focuses on professional negligence, healthcare liability, employment and civil rights claims, and he regularly guides clients through every stage of litigation.

An experienced trial lawyer, Caldwell has tried cases before judges and juries in state and federal courts and has briefed and argued appeals before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Throughout his career, he has secured numerous defense verdicts in high-stakes litigation, including matters involving healthcare providers, governmental entities and businesses.

Caldwell earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he served as an editor of Transactions: Tennessee Business Law Journal, and his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a Fellow of the Nashville Bar Association and is active in several civic organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Caldwell earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis.

Jerry Chapman | Birmingham, Alabama

Chapman is a member of Butler Snow’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Healthcare Litigation Group, where he represents pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare clients in complex litigation. His practice also includes construction and building products litigation, professional liability matters and other high-stakes commercial disputes.

Before joining Butler Snow, Chapman represented clients in complex litigation in Alabama and New York, advising businesses, manufacturers and other organizations through all phases of litigation. He is known for developing practical legal strategies that help clients effectively manage risk while achieving successful outcomes in challenging matters.

Chapman has been recognized as one of the Associated General Contractors’ 40 Under 40 in Construction and was named a Mid-South Rising Star in Business Litigation by Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers® in 2024 and 2025. He is an adjunct professor of Construction Law at Jefferson State Community College and regularly presents on litigation and construction-related legal issues. Additionally, Chapman coaches weekend sports leagues with the Exceptional Foundation in Homewood, Alabama.

Chapman earned his Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he served as a staff editor of the Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Journal, and his Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University.
