On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) published, in BRPTO's Official Gazette (RPI) #2895, the Notice of Public Consultation (Tomada Pública de Subsídios – TPS) #1/2026, inviting interested parties to submit comments on the proposed recognition of Argentine geographical indications (GIs) in Brazil.

The proposed recognition is based on the Agreement on the Mutual Protection of Geographical Indications Originating in the Territories of the Mercosur States Parties, enacted by Decree #13,009, dated June 9, 2026.

Any comments must be limited to the list of geographical indications and their respective technical specifications, which will be made available on the BRPTO's website and on the Brasil Participativo platform. Parties wishing to oppose the recognition of any geographical indication must clearly set out the legal and factual grounds supporting their objection.

Interested parties have 30 days from the date of publication of the Notice to submit their comments. Upon expiration of this period, all submissions received will be forwarded to the Argentine authority responsible for the registration of geographical indications, in accordance with Article 7(5) of the aforementioned Agreement.
