McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to welcome Nancy D. Smith as a Partner in our Business Law Group in Calgary.
Nancy is an experienced business law partner whose practice focuses on a broad range of financing transactions, including syndicated and bilateral financings, secured and unsecured lending, cross-border and international financings, debt offerings, and ISDA Master Agreement transactions. She regularly acts for both lenders and borrowers, with a strong borrower-side practice that provides valuable insight into the strategic priorities and risk considerations shaping complex financings.
Her work spans sophisticated domestic and cross-border mandates, where she advises clients on structuring, negotiating and executing financing arrangements in evolving and often highly coordinated market environments. Nancy's dual-sided experience allows her to bring a well-rounded, commercially pragmatic approach to transactions, helping clients achieve efficient and durable outcomes.
"Nancy's addition strengthens our financing bench and adds depth in areas where we're seeing real demand, particularly sophisticated lending, debt capital markets and derivatives," said Richard O'Doherty, Partner and Co‑Leader of our Business Law Group. Matthew Cumming, Partner and Co‑Leader of our Business Law Group, added: "She enhances our ability to support lenders and borrowers on complex cross-border and international financing matters."
"We are pleased to welcome Nancy to our Calgary office as we continue to build a team that reflects the pace and opportunity in this market," said Brett Anderson, Regional Managing Partner for Alberta. "Her arrival adds to the strength of our Calgary presence and our broader Western Canada offering."
Nancy is admitted to the Alberta bar and received her LLB from Dalhousie University in 2005, and a BA in Political Science in 2001.
"I am excited to join McCarthy Tétrault and collaborate with colleagues across the Firm to support clients navigating increasingly complex financing transactions. The Firm's national platform and integrated approach create a strong foundation to continue delivering practical, solutions-focused advice," said Nancy.
