Each year, BUREN awards the BUREN Thesis Prize for Insolvency Law in partnership with Celsus Juridische Uitgeverij, recognising the best LLM dissertation in the field of insolvency law. The prize is aimed at law students who have written an outstanding dissertation and wish to develop further within this specialist area of law.

The judging panel
The judging panel for the BUREN Thesis Prize for Insolvency Law 2026 comprises:

  • Prof. mr. H. Koster, professor of Company Law at Leiden University
  • Mr. dr. H.J. de Kloe, assistant professor of Insolvency Law and Company Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam
  • Mr. M.J.H. Vermeeren, partner and lawyer at BUREN

Do you meet the eligibility criteria?
Are you eligible for the BUREN Thesis Prize for Insolvency Law 2026? Check whether you:

  • have completed an LLM dissertation at a Dutch university;
  • have written your dissertation in the field of insolvency law and received a mark of 8 out of 10 or higher;
  • had your dissertation assessed after 27 September 2025 and before 26 September 2026;
  • wrote your dissertation in Dutch or English.

If you meet all the criteria, submit your dissertation for the BUREN Thesis Prize for Insolvency Law 2026!

Submission deadline: Friday 25 September 2026 at 23:59.

What can you win?
The winner of the BUREN Thesis Prize for Insolvency Law 2026 will receive:

  • A cash prize of €1,000;
  • The opportunity to do an internship at the Restructuring & Insolvency practice group at BUREN;
  • Publication of the winning dissertation as a book by Celsus Juridische Uitgeverij. The author will receive five copies.

How to enter
Please submit your anonymised dissertation (with no reference to the author, university or supervisor), together with the completed and signed application form, to:

Award ceremony
The award ceremony for the BUREN Thesis Prize for Insolvency Law 2026 is scheduled to take place on Thursday 19 November 2026 in the late afternoon (subject to change). Further details will be announced in due course.
