Ward and Smith labor and employment attorneys Ken Gray and Justin Hill presented at the North Carolina Community Colleges Accounting & Business Office Conference on April 20, where they addressed timely employment law issues affecting community colleges across the state.
During their session, Ken and Justin provided a brief overview of key changes in employment law over the past few years, focusing on developments most relevant to college business, finance, and human resources professionals. They discussed how recent legal and regulatory updates impact day-to-day employment decisions and compliance responsibilities within the community college system.
The presentation also addressed considerations colleges face when hiring remote employees who work outside of North Carolina. In addition, they discussed wage and hour compliance issues, including penalties associated with failing to pay employees for all time worked.
Ken and Justin’s presentation offered practical guidance designed to help community colleges better understand evolving employment law obligations and strengthen compliance efforts in an increasingly complex workforce environment
