Following one of the largest lateral acquisitions in the past year, The American Lawyer reported that Barnes & Thornburg's continued focus on client service, strategic growth and a collaborative and consensus-driven culture led to an outstanding year for the firm in 2025.
In an interview published on March 26, 2026, Barnes & Thornburg managing partner Andrew J. Detherage called 2025 "one of our best" years, noting that the firm's service offerings did not have a weak spot. "The good news is there's no practices that struggled or that we're waiting for a bounce-back in," he said. "We were strong across the board."
The article noted that the firm added a 39-lawyer public finance team during the first quarter of this year and opened new offices in Baltimore, Phoenix and Denver in one of the industry's biggest lateral moves in recent memory. Detherage emphasized that Barnes & Thornburg remains focused on quality over quantity even as the firm draw closer to reaching the billion-dollar revenue mark.
"I'm interested more in the fact that we've strategically gotten better," he said. "We could go do a merger with another firm that doesn't have the same quality as we do, and be at a billion tomorrow. But it doesn't make us any better."
