November 12, 2025 — Former U.S. attorneys David DeVillers and Josh Minkler and former prosecutor Joy Boyd Longnecker have been appointed as new co-chairs of Barnes & Thornburg's White Collar, Compliance and Investigations (WCCI) practice. Together, they bring formidable experience to the firm as former prosecutors with more than 140 combined cases tried before juries.
"Dave, Josh and Joy are highly respected white collar defense attorneys who represent clients facing serious allegations brought by state and federal government agencies," said Andrew Detherage, the firm's managing partner. "When the stakes are high, clients turn to them for both aggressive defense and regulatory compliance guidance."
DeVillers, based in Columbus, joined BT in 2021 after serving as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. Minkler, based in Indianapolis, joined the firm in 2020 after serving as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. Longnecker, a former assistant district attorney, is a founding partner of the firm's Nashville office, which opened in 2023. Together, they focus on white collar criminal defense, compliance, internal investigations and complex business litigation that involve federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
DeVillers, Minkler and Longnecker will succeed current WCCI co-chairs Katie Matsoukas and Meena Sinfelt, whose terms will conclude at the end of 2025. Matsoukas, who has been with the firm since 2009, and Sinfelt, who joined the firm's Washington, D.C., office in 2015, have provided distinguished leadership during their tenure as co-chairs.
BT's White Collar practice deploys more than 70 seasoned trial, investigations and compliance lawyers across the country, drawing on deep experience from both the U.S. Department of Justice and private practice. This experience enables the team to defend companies against investigations by the FBI, SEC, IRS, HHS, EPA, FDA and other federal, state and local enforcement agencies.
"Our white collar leadership team brings an unparalleled combination of prosecutorial background and deep defense experience, giving our clients a decisive advantage," said Randy Brown, chair of BT's Litigation Department. "Their insider perspective and relentless commitment to protecting client interests is why companies trust them in their most critical moments."
The WCCI team defends clients against high-stakes allegations, including healthcare, securities, and mail fraud; false statements; antitrust violations; Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) claims; and the full spectrum of white collar enforcement actions. The group also oversees complex international monitorships and conducts sensitive internal investigations.
