Boult is always on the lookout for bright academic minds in the STEM and legal fields (and beyond!) to join our attorney teams.
This year, the Boult team has been attending university career fairs across the country with the aim of raising awareness of the intellectual property (IP) industry as a career path to a broad pool of students.
Unlike a more traditional legal career – for which there is perhaps a well-trodden progression from legal studies (or conversion course) into the profession – becoming an IP attorney might not be the first thought for students when considering their future after university. The skills needed to thrive in the IP industry are also interestingly diverse. For patents, a STEM background is required, but so is a capability for the complex legal aspects of the profession. Likewise, for a career in trade marks, a candidate may come from a legal background, or in fact from any area of study, but need the commercial and legal mindset to succeed in the trade mark profession.
During this autumn, members of Boult’s trainee and attorney teams have attended careers fairs at seven university campuses alongside our HR team, answering questions from attendees about the IP industry, their career path and working at Boult. Our team have attended both legal and STEM-focused events, to interact with as broad a pool of potential candidates as possible. In previous events, we have found attendees to be very well researched and insightful in their questioning and we are looking forward to more of the same at our last fair, taking place at UCL on Wednesday12 November.
