We were delighted to receive some fantastic feedback as part of Boult's recent listing in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025, but were particularly pleased to see that we scored highly for staff wellbeing and retention in the survey.

Jenna Clemence is a member of the Wellness Team at Boult and one of our mental health first aiders. We asked her about the role wellbeing plays in making the firm a great place to work.

"I've worked at Boult for ten years. In that time I've worked in almost every area of the firm, I think, so I know a lot of people here!

Right back when I started with Boult, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, so I've been through the challenge of working while receiving treatment and the follow up complications that come with that. I volunteer with Breast Cancer Now and am a big advocate of raising awareness of cancer risks in younger people. Speaking up about things early on is as applicable to mental health as it is for cancer.

The Wellness Team started out as a group of nine of us a few years ago, but we've continued to grow since. We've all been trained externally as mental health first aiders. It's a four day course, renewed every three years and delivered by The Association of Mental Health First Aiders. We have mental health first aiders in each of our offices in the UK, though we're also available via Zoom.

We're here to discuss – well – anything, really. Whether people need a safe space to discuss challenges they're facing, or to just someone to have a coffee with, we're here to listen. The nice thing about our team is that we have a mixture of ages, genders and backgrounds. The hope is we're approachable for everyone.

We're always looking to evolve and develop our wellness programme to best support our colleagues. Other aspects of our programme includes having fresh fruit in the office, our open suggestion boxes for all staff and our regular lunchtime "Feel Good Club" which gives employees a place to chat informally with colleagues as a break from the pressures of work.

Fundamentally I think the reason we've been so successful in building an open and welcoming working community at Boult is the people we have in the company. The culture in Boult is very different. We are inclusive, and integrate team mates who might face certain issues, illness, or mental health conditions as a matter of course. I know that if I'm having a bad day, my team mates will notice – sometimes even before I do! – and help, which certainly makes managing my own mental health easier.

The culture at Boult is really special: personally, it feels quite different to other places I've worked. Maintaining the wellbeing of our people is really important in keeping that going and I'm pleased to play a part in it."
