Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) announces that Larry Rickles has joined the firm as Counsel and will practice in the Intellectual Property group.*
Rickles joins MVA after a decade of leadership as Chief Trademark and Copyright Counsel at Teva Pharmaceuticals, a multinational pharmaceuticals company that has been in business for 125 years. Prior to joining Teva, he spent several years as trademark counsel at Johnson & Johnson.
"Larry is a premier IP practitioner with meaningful in-house and private practice experience in pharmaceuticals and other highly regulated, complex sectors. We are proud to welcome him to the firm, and I am confident he will bolster our capabilities to serve clients in many capacities as they seek to advance their innovations and protect their intellectual property," said Tom Mitchell, MVA's Chair and Managing Partner.
At Teva, Rickles led a team of trademark professionals responsible for handling a portfolio of nearly 25,000 trademarks in dozens of countries worldwide, as well as Teva's copyright and domain name matters. Rickles leverages his many years of experience to advise on a full range of trademark and copyright matters in pharmaceuticals, consumer products, medical devices, and more. He is well-versed in best practices for large-scale trademark strategies, clearance, and proper use. Rickles also has a track record of success in trademark prosecution and supervising contentious matters and continuously seeks ways to drive efficiencies and effectiveness in practice. At J&J, Larry supervised trademark matters globally for several of J&J's core consumer products, pharmaceutical, and medical device brands, including TYLENOL®, REACH® toothbrushes, OneTouch® glucose test strips, as well as pharmaceutical products, such as REMICADE®, STELARA® and SIMPONI®.
Rickles belongs to the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the New York City Bar Association. He previously served on INTA's Board of Directors and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Overlook Hospital Foundation.
His success in the field has earned recognition from Managing IP, World Intellectual Property Review, and World Trademark Review. In April 2025, under Rickles' leadership, Teva's Trademark Department was named "In-House Team of the Year – Americas" by Managing IP.
Rickles earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and B.A. (cum laude) from Johns Hopkins University.
* Rickles is currently admitted to practice law in New York and holds an In-House Counsel Limited License in New Jersey.
