BCL Solicitors LLP is proud to announce that Robert Lawrie has become a Partner.
Robert brings over 20 years of experience in commercial and civil litigation, fraud claims, asset recovery, shareholder and trust disputes, arbitration and cross-border claims. He is a highly regarded specialist and is recommended in the leading directories. This appointment recognises his significant contribution since joining the firm.
Prior to joining BCL in 2023, Robert practised as a barrister in chambers and has held partnerships in City and Mayfair firms. His clients span corporates, high-net-worth individuals, directors, and regulated entities, often across multiple jurisdictions.
Since joining BCL and setting up and leading its successful Commercial Disputes team, he has acted in matters which include:
- Acting in highly publicised proceedings brought by the Indian government against a prominent businessman accused of operating a $2bn fraud
- Acting for an Ultra-High-Net-Worth sanctioned individual in a claim defending winding up proceedings of an Isle of Man investment structure worth $85m
- Acting for UAE-based clients in their defence to the enforcement of a foreign judgment in a £120m fraud claim
- Successfully defending a conspiracy claim against a prestigious sports betting brand, and recovering substantial costs following a two-week Commercial Court trial
- Defending claims by special administrators arising out of €13m paid out of a FCA-registered company
- Acting for international clients in multimillion pound arbitrations in the LCIA, ICC and other arbitration centres
- Obtaining summary judgment dismissing a claim against a solicitor defending a £3m fraud claim
- Pursuing enforcement (in UK and internationally) of costs orders made following failed private prosecutions
- Multi-jurisdictional enforcement of arbitration awards for national governments, corporates and individuals
