Ballard Spahr Litigation Associates Andrew P. Valencia and Alexia "Lexi" Chapman have received the Colorado Lawyers Committee’s Impact Award, which recognizes volunteer attorneys whose exceptional pro bono contributions to litigation have had a significant and positive impact on the community.
Andrew and Lexi led Ballard Spahr’s work on behalf of historical landowners in south-central Colorado’s San Luis Valley, helping to ensure that their longstanding rights to grazing, firewood, and timber access on the 83,000-acre Taylor Ranch were honored. Litigation pertaining to access to the ranch began in 1981, and Ballard Spahr has worked on behalf of the landowners since 2020.
The Ballard Spahr team that has worked on Taylor Ranch litigation won the firm’s Alan J. Davis Award for outstanding pro bono work in 2022. The team donated the $25,000 prize for that award to Land Rights Council, a nonprofit that works to preserve and secure access to Taylor Ranch.
