Dr Ann Fenech, Partner and Head of our Marine Litigation Department, was again confirmed President of the Comité Maritime International for a further 3 years at the CMI's Annual General Meeting, which was held in Tokyo last month.
Dr Fenech was first elected President of the CMI in Antwerp in October 2022 and is the first female President of the CMI since its creation in 1897. Dr Fenech has stated that it has been a tremendous experience leading the world's oldest international maritime law organisation and feels honoured and privileged to have been renominated for another 3 years. In her opening address she said that maritime industry organisations, maritime practitioners and admiralty judges world wide have the expectation that the CMI will from time to time produce conventions, guidelines and rules which will attempt to unify the laws of countries on issues which are important to them, important to the orderly conduct of maritime trade, important to provide stability to the maritime environment in which we all operate and important to give that certainty to the maritime world which is currently plagued by the uncertainties of geo politics whilst also facing exciting yet unprecedented technological development.
