Investors in Detroit Team Include Owners of Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos
NEW YORK, May 21, 2025 – Leading international law firm Proskauer today announced that it advised TGL presented by SoFi ("TGL") in connection with the formation of its seventh team: Motor City Golf Club ("MCGC"). MCGC is the first expansion team for TGL, the primetime, team-based golf league founded by TMRW Sports together with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, in association with the PGA TOUR, and will represent Detroit when it starts in TGL's third season in 2027.
MCGC's ownership is made up of a diverse group of investors with roots in Detroit and across sports. The group is led by Middle West Partners, led by principals Michael Hamp, Peter Hamp and Kevin Kelleher. The Hamp family are longtime co-owners of the Detroit Lions, with Sheila Hamp currently serving as principal owner and chairwoman of the football club. For this new TGL team venture, Mrs. Hamp, along with her husband, Steve, are co-owners of Motor City Golf Club.
Other investors include Present Ventures co-owners Kit Hawkins and Vansa Chatikavanij; technology entrepreneur Kal Somani, co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League; Ronin Capital Partners, led by Jay Farner, former CEO of Rocket Companies; and RHC Group, an active sports investment firm and early supporter of TGL.
Adding to the experienced ownership group are Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton and Jordan Rose, president and founder of Rose Law Group, the largest woman-founded law firm in Arizona history.
Proskauer has a long-standing relationship with TMRW Sports and TGL, serving as primary outside counsel on league structure and launch, initial team sales, sponsorship, media and operations and player-related matters since the league's inception. For the expansion to Detroit, the Firm continued to work closely with management evaluating bids, negotiating terms and finalizing expansion agreements.
The Proskauer team throughout the expansion process was led by partners Rob Freeman (Sports, TMT) and Grant Darwin (M&A) as well as associate Sean Wildes (Sports). The transaction team also included partners Amanda Nussbaum and Aaron Lee (Tax) and associate Jacob Weinberg (M&A).
