Jarno Tanhuanpää has been appointed as the new Managing Partner of Castrén & Snellman as of 29 April 2025. He succeeds Sakari Lukinmaa, who will return his full focus to client work as a partner in our Banking & Finance practice after eight years as the Managing Partner.

Jarno Tanhuanpää is particularly known as a trusted advisor for our private equity, venture capital and institutional investor clients, and he will continue to advise clients in his new role.

‘It is a great honour to take the reins and lead Castrén & Snellman and our clients towards the future in a rapidly changing world. Our strategic advice and partnership are valued more than ever in these times,’ says Jarno.

Castrén & Snellman is the oldest law firm in Finland and a trusted advisor in M&A, disputes and other specialised fields of business law.

‘Even after 136 years, our firm continues to be characterised by the courage to be an uncompromising forerunner in our field. Right now, for example, we are leading the way in harnessing generative artificial intelligence. We constantly share our insights with our clients in our role as a strategic partner,’ Jarno continues.

Jarno became a partner at Castrén & Snellman in 2015, and he has served on the firm’s board and its management group since 2022. In addition to practising law, Jarno has many years’ experience in London and at the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg, which has given him a thorough understanding of both the role of the client and the world of development finance. He also holds a master’s degree in finance.

Castrén & Snellman has risen to the top ranks of Finnish law firms in the international arena as well. We are happy to note that our turnover from cross-border investments and projects continues to grow, as our clients increasingly trust our expertise beyond Finland as well.

‘I would like to warmly thank my colleagues at Castrén & Snellman for these past years and wish Jarno every success in the future. The best part of being a managing partner has been all the people I have had the opportunity to work with in taking our firm forward. Our people in all the different roles and our unique culture make C&S a very special law firm. They also provide a strong foundation for developing our firm even further and continuing to support our clients in the best way possible,’ says Sakari Lukinmaa.

For many years now, Castrén & Snellman has been recognised and rewarded as the most desirable employer in the field.

‘Having the brightest minds is the most important success factor in the legal business. That is why we want to nurture our working community. AI not only makes legal work more efficient, but it also accelerates the career development of young lawyers. In recent years, we have placed particular emphasis on teamwork and project management, which also play an important role in resourcing and therefore job satisfaction. I am glad that the Castrén Spirit is alive and well,’ says Jarno.

Anders Forss appointed Chair of the Board of Directors

Anders Forss, Partner and Co-Head of Dispute Resolution, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors as of 29 April 2025. Anders, with a career of more than 20 years with the firm, is one of Finland’s leading experts in international arbitration and litigation.

Carola Lindholm, who has served on the Board of Directors for eight years and as the Chair for the past three years, will continue her work as a trusted advisor to clients, with a specific focus on demanding transactions.
