Wiley has secured asylum for an Angolan refugee family who fled their home country due to persecution, discrimination, and violence they faced as members of an ethnic minority group.

At the conclusion of the family’s two-day merits hearing, the U.S. Immigration Court in Sterling, VA announced its oral ruling granting the family’s pending asylum applications. Additionally, counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security waived the government’s appeal rights, conceding the correctness of the judge’s decision.

Wiley’s Pro Bono Partner Theodore A. Howard and attorneys Stephen A. Morrison, Augusta M. Nau, Vaibhavi Patria, and Jillian M. Quigley represented the family pro bono with assistance from paralegals Alexandra Fuentes-Hernandez and Sarah Johnson.
