On April 28, 2025, Beveridge & Diamond (B&D) expanded its San Francisco office with the addition of seven distinguished attorneys from Barg Coffin Lewis & Trapp, LLP, a premier California environmental law boutique. The addition of the Barg Coffin team enhances B&D’s longtime presence in California and responds to increased demand for the firm’s environmental regulatory and litigation services in California and across the country.
Barg Coffin brings a depth of experience and prominence in California courts and regulatory agencies that will strengthen B&D in California as the state enacts and enforces a multitude of environmental, natural resource, product, and chemical laws and regulations. For decades, Barg Coffin has counseled businesses, public agencies, and individuals navigating complex environmental matters, including legacy contamination, agricultural chemical issues, and international environmental issues. B&D’s platform in California, six additional offices nationwide, and more than 160 lawyers will provide Barg Coffin’s many clients additional capabilities and enhanced client service. Barg Coffin joins B&D’s existing California team of 15 lawyers resident in San Francisco and Southern California.

The addition of these lawyers is the latest example of B&D’s strategic growth over the last two years. Since 2023, the firm has added more than 30 lawyers, including federal and state government attorneys and industry leaders, to its seven offices in key markets around the U.S. The Barg Coffin team is an exciting capstone to our strategic growth in the California market alone, with the office having added nine other new associates and international LLM fellows over the past 18 months.
All practicing Barg Coffin lawyers joined B&D, including Morgan Gilhuly, Brian Haughton, David Metres, Emily Haldeman, Griffin Williams, John Barg, and Stephen Lewis. Gilhuly, Haughton, and Metres joined as firm Principals. Haldeman and Williams joined as Associates. Barg and Lewis joined as Senior Counsel. In addition to the seven lawyers, two paralegals and two office staff members also joined B&D. Barg Coffin has ceased operations and winded down concurrent with its lawyers and staff joining B&D.
