Global law firm A&O Shearman has provided legal counsel to the senior lenders to Chappal Energies in its acquisition of 32-year-old upstream energy business Equinor Nigeria Energy Company from Equinor ASA.
The deal – which closed on 6 December – means that Chappal now owns a 20.21% interest in the Agbami field.
“This was a highly significant transaction
– part of a wider move towards increased home-grown
investment in Nigeria’s upstream energy sector as global
players operating in the country have begun to shift to offshore
and deepwater operations.”
