Matheson Ormsby Prentice acted for Endesa/Enel in the sale by Italian utility Enel of Endesa Ireland to Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE). The deal involves the purchase of power stations and electricity plants in Ireland.

Enel is Italy's largest power company, and one of Europe's main listed utilities. It is an integrated player, active in both the power and gas sectors, and operates in more than 40 countries worldwide.

SSE plc is the UK's second largest generation business, with an ownership interest in over 100 thermal and renewable power stations. It operates and invests in energy production, storage, distribution, supply and related services mainly in the UK and Ireland.

This deal consolidates SSE's position as the third biggest player in the Irish energy market.
