The Department of Merchant Shipping has issued an updated guide to ship registration, providing comprehensive information on all aspects of the registration of vessels under the Cyprus flag.1 The guide sets out the history of the Cyprus shipping sector and the structure of the maritime administration and legislative framework before detailing:

  • the different types of registration available;
  • the conditions of ownership and management, as well as operational requirements (particularly regarding safe manning);
  • insurance against civil liability;
  • classification societies; and
  • radio traffic accounting authorities.
