Climate change is producing extreme weather events and adversely affecting communities around the world. Canada has already observed this first-hand. Floods in Calgary and Toronto, and wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alta., are but three examples. The insured losses stemming from the latter have been estimated at approximately $4 billion, making it the greatest insured loss in Canadian history.
