On April 5, 2019, São Paulo Municipality published Decree No. 58,701 ("Decree"), regulating the Municipal Urban Cleaning System.

Among the innovations brought by the Decree, we highlight:

  • New classification for companies that generated high volumes of specific solid waste ("Companies"), subject to control mechanisms from the Municipality;
  • Companies' mandatory registration with Municipal Urban Cleaning Agency ("AMLURB");
  • Companies are expressly prohibited to dispose solid waste with entities that are not duly registered within the Municipal Urban Cleaning System.
