Leading law firms collaborate on defining practice excellence in business and human rights.
Vancouver (Canada)– Fasken is a founding member of the Business and Human Rights Lawyers Association (BHRLA). The BHRLA's member firms will collaborate to advance business and human rights in commercial legal practice.
The BHRLA is focused on advancing business and human rights leadership, learning, collaboration and practice among commercial law firms and business lawyers around the world, and respecting these rights as set out in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). The association will support lawyers in advising commercial clients on the human rights risks and opportunities associated with business activities.
"Furthering practice excellence by integrating the responsibility to respect human rights into client services is foundational for the legal profession in today's global economy," said Kevin O'Callaghan, Partner, Leader, Indigenous Law, and regional Lead, Corporate Social Responsibility group, Fasken. "Through collaboration with other lawyers in this field from around the world, we will better understand how business and human rights are affecting clients and provide them with solutions to address potential impacts on their business, their stakeholders and the community."
The BHRLA founding members are law firms in Australia, Canada, Europe, the UK and the United States, all with global reach.
