Nicky Garnett

Nicky Garnett is the Head of the Africa Patents Section of the Patent Department, a position she has held since 2008. Nicky is originally from Zimbabwe and moved to South Africa in 2008. She obtained her law degree from the University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg) in 1997 and in 1998 she began working with a leading law firm in Zimbabwe specialising in Intellectual Property.

Nishan Singh

Nishan Singh is a qualified attorney and trade mark practitioner, who has been a partner of the firm since March 2012. Nishan advises some of the world’s top multi-national organisations on the protection and enforcement of their brands and related intellectual property in Africa. Nishan has extensive experience with litigation proceedings relating to intellectual property in the High Court, the Tribunal of the Registrar of Trade Marks, the Companies Tribunal and domain name dispute resolution providers, such as WIPO.

Simon Brown

Simon’s practice focuses largely on clearance investigations, filing and prosecution of trade mark cases and trade mark portfolio management throughout Africa and internationally.

As well as being a lecturer in International Trade Mark Law for SAIIPL (South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law), Simon is actively involved in a number of committees for both SAIIPL and INTA (International Trade Mark Association).

Ogi Williams

Ogi has been with In On Africa for six years and has extensive experience in research, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, project management and reporting. His research experience has covered the majority of the African continent, with numerous projects focused on market expansion and industry/sector trend analysis. Ogi has managed research teams in the data gathering and analysis processes in various multi-country research projects, including recent commercial landscape assessments, opportunity assessments, industry research and competitor intelligence. His other work has focused on aspects of the banking, energy, law, oil & gas, healthcare, mining, youth and education sectors amongst others, and he continues to be involved in other facets of research and analysis regarding developing markets in Africa.

Sarah Brough

Sarah is a UK qualified Chartered Trade Mark Attorney working in-house at Caterpillar.

Before qualifying as a trade mark attorney in 2018, Sarah obtained her law degree from Coventry University and passed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Birmingham, UK.

As a trade mark attorney at Caterpillar, Sarah is responsible for enforcing and protecting the well known CAT/Caterpillar trademarks in Africa.
