The SEC announced two separate whistleblower awards worth approximately $4.2 million combined. First, the SEC awarded nearly $2.5 million to an employee of a domestic government agency for providing a whistleblower tip that resulted in an SEC investigation and whose continued assistance enabled the SEC to address a company's misconduct by providing critical documents and testimony that accelerated the pace of the enforcement action. Second, it awarded more than $1.7 million to a company insider who provided "critical information to help stop a fraud that would have otherwise been difficult to detect," resulting in the return of millions of dollars to harmed investors following the ensuing SEC investigation and enforcement action. Since launching the whistleblower program, the SEC has awarded approximately $158 million to 46 whistleblowers who voluntarily provided the SEC with original and useful information that led to a successful enforcement action.
