Each year, the Detroit Auto Show includes spectacular "reveals" by automakers- new vehicles, concept cars, and new advances in technology. This year is shaping up to include some exciting new releases for fans of the next big thing in the auto industry.
On January 9, Ford unveiled the next generation Ford Explorer. The Ford Explorer is an SUV mainstay, and the much-anticipated 2020 Explorer replaces the 2011 generation with new head lights, new grille, higher end trims, extra storage, and EcoBoost engines.
Infiniti also released photos of its QX Inspiration Concept before the auto show, showcasing a luxury electric SUV. The official reveal will occur at the show. - Cadillac XT6: Cadillac will reveal its new SUV, the XT6, at the auto show. The model will be smaller than the Escalade but larger than the XT5, and include three rows of seating geared towards families.
- RAM Heavy Duty Pickup Truck: After months of speculation, FCA is slated to unveil the new Ram Heavy Duty pickup on January 14. FCA's 2018 debut of the Ram 1500 garnered widespread praise, and FCA is looking for a repeat this year.
- Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: Based on a teaser image, the Mustang will boast a 700+ horsepower, supercharged V-8 engine. The details are limited, but in January 2018, Ford touted the upcoming GT500 as the "most powerful street-legal production Ford ever" (along with a promo video seemingly made just for fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise).
- Lexus RC F Track Edition: Lexus posted a teaser video of the RC F Track on social media showing the car whipping around a racetrack. Details are sparse, but the video showed a large rear wing on the car.
- Toyota Supra: Toyota is unveiling its "resurrected" Supra at the Auto Show. Toyota revealed a concept version of the car in March 2018, with internet rumors and speculation continuing throughout the year. At the show, Toyota will release the first production model of the popular sports car in the US in approximately 20 years.
Given this new class of vehicles, MY 2020 looks to be the year of SUVs and performance vehicles.
