Turkey has extended various measures to protect employment in the context of the COVID-19 crisis by two months.

On 27 October 2020, the periods stipulated for the termination ban for employers, employers' right to send their employees on unpaid leave unilaterally and the period of operation of short-time working allowance in Turkey were extended. These measures are part of the package of measures implemented to mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Extension of short-time working allowance

The short-time working allowance period is extended for two months following the completion of the previous short-time allowance period determined for workplaces that have applied for short-time working up to and including 30 June 2021 due to force majeure events resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic.

Extension ofthe ban on terminating employment and the period during which employers can put employees on unpaid leave 

The periods during which employers can send employees on unpaid leave unilaterally and the period of application of the ban on terminating employment has been extended (subject to some exceptions set out in legislation) for two months from 17 November 2020, that is until 17 January 2021.
