Trademark/Service Mark Applications

1.A simply signed power of attorney stamped with the corporate seal or rubber stamp of the applicant company, for each application.

2.A printing block and eight prints of the mark even for word marks.

3.The list of the goods to be covered by the application.

4.A certified copy of the home registration of the trademark. In the absence of a home registration, the Registrar in Syria may accept a certified copy of any foreign registration of the trademark along with an undertaking executed by an officer of the applicant company stating that the applicant company has no registration of the trademark in the home country.

5.The name, address, nationality, profession and nature of business of the applicant.

Compulsory Trademark Applications

Trademarks filed in class 3 for soaps and detergents require a legalized certificate of origin from the foreign department of the Ministry of Health, Chamber of Commerce or any competent authority in the applicant's country as to the true origin of the products upon which the trademark is applied.

In lieu of this document, a declaration in respect of the origin of the products made by the applicant company can be used.

Trademarks filed in class 5 for pharmaceutical products require a statement duly notarized and legalized up to the Syrian Consulate regarding the composition of the pharmaceutical products on which the mark is to be registered, this statement could be in the form of an undertaking issued by the company and typed on it's letterhead.

Renewal of Trademarks

1. A simply signed power of attorney, for each application.

2. A printing block and prints of the trademark.

3. Owners name and address as recorded in Syria.

4. List of goods/services protected under the registration to be renewed.

5. Explanation of any modifications on the trademark registration in Syria, including the change of name or address or in the mark's title etc...., along with mentioning the number and date of the relevant certificate issued by the Proprietary Protection Department (PPD) in Syria.

Patent Applications

1.A power of attorney duly notarized by the notary public or any other certifying officer, for each application.

2- International Classification of the patent to be filed

3.Three copies of the specification and claims in English or French along with the Arabic translation.

4.Three sets of the formal drawings, if any.

5.A certified copy of the basic application as filed, together with the complete Arabic translation.

6.The name, address, nationality, profession and nature of business of the applicant.

7. The patent application must be accompanied with a certified copy of the basic application filed in the home or any other country. A certified copy of the home country Patent Letter (Registration Certificate) should be sent immediately upon it's issuance for completion of the application.

Annuity and Nominal Working

For payment of patent annuities or effecting nominal workings for patents, no powers of attorney are required. Nominal working may be effected by publishing a notice in a local newspaper every two years, offering the patent for exploitation.

Design or Industrial Model Applications

1.A simply signed power of attorney stamped with the corporate seal or rubber stamp of the applicant company, for each application.

2.Three copies of the description with the Arabic translation.

3.Three copies of a specimen, drawing or reproduction of the design or model.

4.The name, nationality, address, profession and nature of business of the applicant.

5.A certified copy of the home registration of the design.

Assignment, License or Merger Applications

1.A simply signed power of attorney from the assignee stamped with the corporate seal or rubber stamp of the applicant company, for each application.

2.A legalized deed of assignment signed by both the assignor and the assignee, license agreement or certificate of merger.

3.The number and date of the trademark or patent concerned.

4.The name, address, nationality, profession and nature of business of the assignee.

Change of Name and/or Address Applications

1.A simply signed power of attorney stamped with the corporate seal or rubber stamp of the applicant company, for each application.

2.A legalized certificate indicating the change of name and/or address, clarifying and specifying the date of the change.

3.The number and date of the trademark or patent concerned.

Notes:

1. The Trademark Patent Office may ask for a boycott declaration, answering the prescribed questionnaire, executed on the letterhead of the applicant company and legalized up to the Syrian or any Arab Consulate. The document which may be requested in respect of any type of application is submitted only upon the request of the Boycott Office. If there are prior registrations in the name of the applicant, it may be possible to facilitate the procedure of obtaining the Boycott Office's approval due to its earlier registration.

2. No application can be filed unless all required documents are available. If priority is claimed then the priority document maybe submitted within 3 months from the date of filing the application.
