Meet Chanique Rautenbach, Barnard's very own barefoot, 'skrik vir niks' bosveld meisie.
Chanique joined Barnard in 2015 after moving away from an
insurance law firm. The directors saw something exceptional in her
and have not been able to get rid of her since!
As Head of Department for M&A and Compliance at Barnard, Chanique is passionate about providing legal solutions to ensure compliance and assisting clients to ensure their legal framework and agreements are done right from the start.
Chanique has immersed herself in understanding compliance legislation and risk in the Republic of South Africa with regards to POPI and has become involved in understanding international data protection laws.
Her acceptance that the law is an ever-changing facet of life, makes her worthy of her recent nomination as Private Practice Rising Star as part of the African Legal Awards 2022.
She is one of the few attorneys that has an outward mindset, focused on exceptional client service, integrating various areas of the law.
Her view on our legal system and client's business is always holistic and embraces the fact that an area of law, like compliance with overlap with various areas of business such as risk and insurance.
Chanique is often approached by media outlets to provide commentary on wider aspects of commercial law affecting society, including the unilateral changes to customer agreements by DStv Multichoice, and actions by Facebook, Meta and WhatsApp.

When Chanique is not helping to make Barnard Inc. one of the top firms in South Africa using her myriad of strengths, she can be found spending time with a good book and a glass of wine.
Her colleagues describe her as a caring, loud, no-nonsense 'shorty' – she measures a full 1.53 metres! She also enjoys spending time with her family. She's most proud of becoming a parent.
