TO OUR FRIENDS
As our communities persevered through the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, I continued to be amazed and inspired by the ways in which Greensfelder's attorneys and staff ensured they were helping to support those in need. I am pleased to share this annual report on the ¬rm's commitment to pro bono legal assistance and community service and support, and I look forward to continuing these initiatives in 2022.
We will continue our commitment to the #GreensfelderGivesBack initiative in 2022 by:
- Increasing employee involvement: The ¬rm will challenge even more employees to participate in service activities and giving back to our communities. Whether that be through service on non-pro¬t boards or in other leadership capacities, or exploring more ways to incentivize community service, we want to build on the spirit of giving that is already strong in our organization.
- Continuing our support for equity and social justice: In 2020, the ¬rm selected equity as a focal point of our charitable giving and community service initiatives. Greensfelder will continue its support for social justice by targeting efforts that serve and uplift historically marginalized groups and those that have a focus on equity, justice and fairness for all.
- Partnering with others in the community: We look forward to expanding our collaboration with clients and community partners who share our core values to make a greater impact.
OUR COMMUNITY GIVING
PRO BONO LEGAL SERVICES
Greensfelder attorneys provide a significant amount of top-notch legal work at no charge to organizations in need in our communities through our pro bono program. Whether it is serving as part of Missouri's Public Defender program or providing legal services and advice to local non-profits, our attorneys demonstrate their love for community with action. We support organizations including Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and Land of Lincoln Legal Aid that strive to improve access to justice.
Our pro bono service often includes assisting those who cannot afford legal counsel, to ensure their rights are represented. This includes civil disputes over matters such as evictions, criminal felony matters, and federal court lawsuits filed on behalf of prisoners. Other volunteer legal services include various assistance for non-profit entities the firm supports, ranging from social services agencies to business and religious organizations.
VOLUNTEER SERVICE & FINANCIAL/IN-KIND DONATIONS
Greensfelder attorneys and staff members give time and service to organizations that are near and dear to them and personally donate financially to charitable causes. In addition, Greensfelder is proud to donate to non-profits and charitable organizations that do important work in our communities, especially during the pandemic. A list of many of the organizations that received financial and volunteer support from Greensfelder attorneys and staff in 2021 can be found at the end of this report.
SPOTLIGHT ON 2021 GIVING AND VOLUNTEERISM
MOTION FOR KIDS HOLIDAY DRIVE
Greensfelder continued its longstanding participation in the annual Motion for Kids event in 2021, with the firm sponsoring over 100 children and also providing volunteer assistance at the celebration event. Motion for Kids is an effort by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the St. Louis legal community to purchase holiday gifts for children in need, many of whom are in foster care or otherwise adversely impacted by the judicial system.
RIVERVIEW GARDENS HIGH SCHOOL "WHAT'S NEXT?" CAREER FAIR
A group of Greensfelder employees participated in a career exploration event hosted by the Little Bit Foundation and the Riverview Gardens School District. The "What's Next?" Career Fair gives students an opportunity to interact with professionals and begin to plan their next steps after high school. Hundreds of sophomore, junior and senior high school students attend the fair during a three-hour period.
