The New York State Bar Association Antitrust Section presented its 2020 William T. Lifland Distinguished Service Award on January 30, 2020, to partner Saul P. Morgenstern in recognition of his accomplishments in the field of antitrust and leadership contribution to the bar and community. The award acknowledges those who throughout their professional careers have distinguished themselves as leading antitrust practitioners as well as serving the broader antitrust community in a leadership role, and is presented to the recipient by the Antitrust Section during the Antitrust Section's annual dinner at the University Club of New York.

A former president of the Harvard Law Review and law clerk for Justice John Marshall Harlan on the Supreme Court of the United States, the late Bill Lifland was a preeminent antitrust practitioner, author, teacher, and mentor. While practicing at the New York law firm of Cahill Gordon & Reindel, Lifland taught at Fordham Law School, published a regular column on antitrust in the New York Law Journal and wrote several books on antitrust subjects. Bill Lifland educated generations of antitrust lawyers within and outside of his firm. In 1997, he received the Antitrust Section's Distinguished Service Award, which was later renamed for him.
