One of Haseltine Lake's esteemed partners has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the Shanghai Intellectual Property International Forum/ Global Intellectual Property Protection and Innovation Development Conference of 2018. Daniel Chew, Haseltine Lake's lead partner for Asia, will be speaking around the forum topic of "International Trade Regulations and Intellectual Property Protection". The forum is part of world's first import-themed national exhibition: The China International Import Expo.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's government, the event will bring together IP Judges, IP lawyers and attorneys, enterprise IP executives and senior managers of R&D Departments, industry associations, research institutions, university researchers and students from over 100 countries and regions with the aim of supporting trade liberalisation and economic globalisation, and open China's market to the world actively. The expo will run from November 5th-10th at the National Convention and Exhibition Center in Shanghai, China with Daniel scheduled to speak on the 7th.
Three international organisations and 81 countries have confirmed that they will be taking part in this national event, including Britain who will be sending Prince Andrew along with the International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox. In addition to this, a number of large British firms will be attending including BP, GlaxoSmithKline and Jaguar Land Rover. The event promises to draw a number of high level officials with Chinese President, Xi giving a speech on the first day of the expo.
The event, which will be the first China International Import Expo, is organised by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office, the Shanghai People's Municipal Government and the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), in conjunction with the co-organiser: the Shanghai Huangpu River Enterprise Intellectual Property Cooperation and Exchange Center.
As a frequent visitor to Asia, particularly China, Taiwan and South Korea, Daniel has a strong insight into working practices in these regions. This extensive experience has led to Daniel delivering a number of seminars in China and round table discussions in the UK highlighting the importance of IP protection in China for UK businesses.

Haseltine Lake has extensive experience in Asia, particularly in China, which is important to the firm's growth strategy. The firm will be celebrating 10 years in China next year, having opened an office in Guangzhou in 2009 which has ensured the firm is well connected throughout the region.
