International law firm Eversheds today announces the significant appointment of Marcus Trinick as a Partner in its clean energy and sustainability group. Marcus is joining from Bond Pearce and is widely regarded as one of the best lawyers in the renewables sector and is the UK's leading wind farm expert, according to Chambers' 2008 Guide.

Marcus acted on the first ever UK wind farm at Delabole in Cornwall. He has advised on over 220 proposed renewables projects throughout the UK and appeared as advocate at over 30 wind farm public inquiries. His CV includes the consenting of 80 per cent of offshore wind farm projects in the UK to date.

He is a long standing board member of the British Wind Energy Association and is widely credited with having helped to shape the direction of the UK wind industry in the last 15 years.

Michelle Thomas, Partner and Head of the clean energy and sustainability group at Eversheds said:

"Marcus is a pioneer in this sector and is one of its most highly regarded lawyers. We are delighted to have him join us."

"The Eversheds team is a growing and highly successful one focussed on Europe and the emerging markets. We are one of the few teams which can genuinely say we advise across all technologies globally. We are also focussed on advising within the carbon trading and finance market and have a cross office carbon team based in London and Shanghai. In addition, the team has been expanded to advise on sustainability issues more widely across various sectors."

"Marcus' appointment will add further depth to our team and only increase our ability to capitalise on the expected growth in the market, particularly offshore and on-shore wind."

"Tackling climate change and securing a stable energy supply for the UK has never been so pressing and we know that businesses are taking these challenges seriously. Europe is looking for 20 per cent of its energy to come from renewable sources by 2020. Marcus' expertise will be an incredible value-add to our clients striving to meet this challenging target."

Paul Wootton, Head of Eversheds' planning group said:

"Our existing renewables team has consented over 500MW of projects in the last 12 months. Marcus is joining the largest group of planning lawyers in the UK, and will enable us to take the scale of our delivery of renewables projects to a new level."

Julian Boswall, renewables planning Partner, adds:

"Never has there been a better time to bring in someone of Marcus' calibre and experience in light of the UK Government's statements on the huge anticipated growth of offshore wind and the EU proposals for a 15 per cent renewable energy target for the UK."
