Andrew (33) has dealt with a wide spread of finance work, including asset, project and property finance. He has also developed a specialist capability in Italian financing work, particularly in the power sector, which will be beneficial to Lovells' Italian and projects practices.
Lovells opened offices in Rome and Milan in September 2001 and regards Italy as a huge potential market. The London banking team is closely involved in the development of the firm's transactional banking capacity in Italy, since much of the documentation is governed by English law and financed out of the London market.
Similarly, Lovells' projects practice has identified Italian infrastructure projects as an important growth area, following enabling legislation designed to facilitate economic growth and private sector investment, with a view amongst other things to closing the country's 'infrastructure gap'. This encompasses water, airports, roads, bridges and hospitals as well as energy projects.
Speaking for Lovells international banking & finance practice, Andrew Gamble said:
"Andrew's primary role will be as a banking partner, but he also has just the transaction management expertise that we need to reinforce two areas of our practice – finance and projects work in Italy - that have huge potential. Clients of our Italian and projects practices will be the beneficiaries, as well as our major banking clients in London."
Andrew Welbourn said:
"Lovells' banking practice has an excellent reputation and the firm's recent international expansion, particularly in Europe, has further increased its standing. This is important to me, given my interest in the Italian market, but I also admire the collegiate atmosphere which Lovells has retained in spite of its rapid growth. It is a great career move."
