Potter Clarkson is pleased to announce the launch of its dedicated women's health and femtech team, bringing together intellectual property (IP) specialists from across the firm to support innovators, investors and growth companies in one of healthcare's most dynamic and strategically important sectors.
The team is led by Alice Mortiboy, Senior Associate and UK and European Patent Attorney, who will coordinate Potter Clarkson's cross-disciplinary IP support for companies developing, protecting and commercialising innovation in women's health and femtech. Alice comments:
The new team reflects the growing scale, maturity and commercial momentum of women's health innovation, spanning areas such as fertility and reproductive health, diagnostics, oncology, menopause, chronic disease management, medical devices, digital health, data-driven healthcare and AI-enabled solutions.
Why this matters
Women's health has historically been under-recognised as a distinct healthcare category, despite addressing conditions and healthcare needs affecting half of the population. That perception is changing rapidly. Recent analysis of women's health company exits over the past 25 years identified more than 270 acquisitions and IPOs, generating over US$100 billion in value, with almost half of those exits taking place in the last five years.
This momentum underlines that women's health and femtech are no longer emerging or niche areas. They are established, investment-backed healthcare markets where intellectual property, regulatory strategy, brand protection and commercial readiness play a critical role in helping companies scale, raise investment and bring important innovations to market.
Potter Clarkson already has a strong foundation in this area, advising innovative companies developing technologies designed to improve outcomes for women. This includes work across reproductive health, chronic fibro-inflammatory diseases, IVF, precision medicine, probiotics, diagnostics and wider healthcare technologies.
The team will support businesses at every stage of growth, from early-stage innovators protecting new technologies and securing investment, through to established companies managing international portfolios, freedom to operate (FTO) strategies, due diligence and transactions.
By bringing together expertise from across life sciences, healthcare, medtech, digital health, patents, trade marks, designs and commercial IP strategy, the women's health and femtech team is well placed to help clients protect innovation, navigate growth and maximise commercial value in this fast-evolving sector.
