Langlois proudly celebrates the appointment of the Honourable François Rolland as Chair of the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments. Senior counsel, mediator and arbitrator in our litigation group, he has served on the Advisory Board as a federal member since 2018.
This new role builds on a remarkable career defined by independence and impartiality, sound judgment and a deep understanding of Canada’s legal and public institutions, as well as its parliamentary and legislative processes.
An independent and non-partisan body, the Advisory Board is mandated to provide the Prime Minister of Canada with non-binding, merit-based recommendations for Senate appointments. Established in January 2016, the Advisory Board is composed of three federal members and two members from each province or territory where a Senate vacancy is to be filled. Chaired by one of the federal members, it is supported by the Privy Council Office.
“I am honoured to serve as Chair of this important independent body, a responsibility I take on with humility. The Advisory Board plays an important role in Canada’s democratic life, and I have deep respect for its mission,” said the Honourable François Rolland.
“With his exacting standards, strong sense of duty and steadfast commitment to justice and public service, the Honourable François Rolland continues to reflect the very best of our profession. We are immensely proud to have him as a colleague and extend our warmest congratulations on this well-deserved appointment,” said Sean Griffin, Chief Executive Officer of Langlois.
Following a distinguished career in civil and commercial litigation, the Honourable François Rolland served on the Superior Court of Québec from 1996 to 2015, including 11 years as Chief Justice. He joined Langlois in 2019.
Congratulations to our esteemed colleague, whose leadership and commitment continue to make a positive impact across Canada’s legal, judicial and public institutions.
