On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, WeirFoulds came together to celebrate Asian Heritage Month through a shared experience of diverse cuisine, artistic storytelling, and community.
In recognition of the occasion, the firm collaborated with Partial Gallery to curate a shortlist of five works for consideration as part of a firmwide art selection initiative to acquire an original piece by a recent OCAD University graduate of Asian heritage.
During the event, OCAD University President Ana Serrano announced Toronto-based artist Melissa Patel as the selected artist through a virtual introduction. In her opening remarks, Ana spoke to the role of art as a powerful medium for storytelling, identity, and cultural memory, emphasizing its importance in shaping how the Asian Canadian experience is understood.
The artwork, Convergence, was unveiled by Partner Philip Cho and explores elephants as a central symbol of memory, wisdom, patience, and stability, through which Patel reflects on both the intellectual and creative dimensions of artistic practice while examining the relationship between personal and collective identity.
The celebration also featured a curated culinary offering of diverse Asian cuisines that showcased the richness and depth of the region's culinary traditions.
