The Private Client sphere has been awash with legislative changes recently which will require professional intermediaries to increasingly work together to ensure the best outcome for clients.
Topics touched upon during the roundtable discussions included:
- upcoming changes to the inheritance tax treatment of pensions, particularly where charitable giving is involved
- utilising the normal expenditure out of income exemption from inheritance tax, to include drawing down on pensions to utilise such exemption
- recent changes to business property relief and agricultural property relief from inheritance tax
- the use of family investment companies compared to trust vehicles in succession planning
- the role of pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements and how and when to suggest these to clients and their families
The implementation, and implications of, the Finance Act 2026 will take time to fully grasp.
