Firm played a central role in precedent-setting restructuring matters, including the Restructuring Case of the Year
Davies’ Restructuring and Insolvency practice was recognized at last night's inaugural Canadian Insolvency Awards, with the firm involved in all three matters shortlisted for Restructuring Case of the Year, including the winning matter: the Canadian Tobacco Industry CCAA Proceedings.
Widely regarded as one of the most complex restructurings in Canadian history, the tobacco CCAA proceedings addressed nearly $1 trillion in asserted claims and resulted in a court-sanctioned $32.5-billion settlement of tobacco-related liabilities. Davies acted for FTI Consulting Canada Inc. as the court-appointed CCAA Monitor and CCAA Plan Administrator of Imperial Tobacco and its affiliates in the landmark proceedings.
The awards, presented by Insolvency Insider, are adjudicated by an independent judging panel and recognize excellence in execution, outcomes and broader impact across the restructuring and insolvency landscape. This year’s results reflect the depth and sophistication of Davies’ practice and its role in matters of national significance.
